WEATHER PORTRAITS

I think of this series of paintings as portraits. Each painting represents a beloved person in my life.
Using hour-by-hour weather data on the date of their birth with temperatures from a location where the person was born and/or has a strong identity.
Each person’s portrait reflects temperatures recorded over 64 years up to their most recent birthday.
Each day of each year is represented by a vertical stripe divided into 24 rectangles (3/4” x 3/8”) for each hour in the day.
Each rectangle correlates to a color representing the temperature recorded during that hour. This is an exploration into the personality of color.
Using color and pattern to express both ideas and emotions, a concept that has been engaging me for over a decade.
On Shina plywood, carved into a grid and painted in flat acrylics. The outside edges are also painted. 18”x24”x1/4”.
